How To Make Chinese Roast Duck
Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 whole duck (about 4-5 pounds)
- 2 tablespoons of Chinese five-spice powder
- 2 tablespoons of salt
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons of ginger, minced
- 1 tablespoon of garlic, minced
- Spring onions for garnish
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Rinse the duck and pat it dry. Remove any excess fat from the body cavity.
-
Rub the duck inside and out with Chinese five-spice powder and salt. Make sure to coat it well.
-
Place the duck on a rack in a roasting pan, breast side up.
-
Roast the duck in the preheated oven for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or until the skin is crispy and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
-
While the duck is roasting, prepare the glaze by combining honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, ginger, and garlic in a small saucepan. Heat over low heat until the mixture thickens.
-
Brush the glaze over the duck every 15 minutes during the last 30 minutes of roasting.
-
Remove the duck from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before carving.
-
Garnish with spring onions and serve hot.
