  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, minced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced onion and garlic, and sauté until the onion becomes translucent.

  2. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes (if using), and water. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.

  3. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the saucepan and let it cook for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool slightly. Use an immersion blender or a blender to blend the sauce until smooth.

  5. Return the sauce to the heat and let it simmer for another 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
