How To Make Plum Chutney

After all, this savory and often spicy South Asian food item can instantly make all kinds of dishes from Indian cuisine a whole lot better. Use it as a dipping sauce for freshly-made naan bread, as a toast spread, or pair it with curries. So if you’re interested, you’ll have lots of fun playing around with these chutney recipes.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh plums, pitted and chopped
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine plums, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, onion, garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes, cinnamon, cloves, salt, and black pepper.

  2. Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce heat and simmer for 25-30 minutes, or until plums have softened and mixture has thickened.

  3. Remove from heat and let cool completely. Transfer to a jar or container and refrigerate until ready to serve.
