How To Make Classic Samosa

A crispy and delicious Indian snack filled with spiced potatoes and peas.

Preparation: 30 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 50 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 1 cup frozen peas, thawed
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and oil. Slowly add in water and knead the dough to form a smooth ball. Set aside for 30 minutes.

  2. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they sizzle, add potatoes, peas, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for 5-7 minutes.

  3. Divide the dough into 8 equal-sized portions and roll each portion into a thin circle. Cut the circle into two equal parts.

  4. Take one half and fold it into a cone shape. Fill the cone with the potato-pea mixture. Apply water on the edges and seal the cone.

  5. Heat oil in a deep pan over medium flame. Fry the samosas until golden brown and crispy. Serve hot with chutney.
