How To Make Chicken Shawarma Recipe

Middle Eastern spiced chicken wrapped with veggies and sauce.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts, sliced into thin strips
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 4 pita breads
  • 1 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup chopped lettuce
  • 1 cup chopped tomatoes

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the chicken strips, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper.

  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

  3. Add the marinated chicken and cook until golden brown and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.

  4. While the chicken is cooking, prepare the sauce by mixing together the Greek yogurt and lemon juice in a bowl.

  5. Heat the pita breads according to package instructions.

  6. Once heated, spread a generous amount of the yogurt sauce on each pita bread.

  7. Divide the cooked chicken, sliced onions, chopped lettuce, and chopped tomatoes evenly between the 4 pita breads.

  8. Roll the pita breads up tightly, securing with toothpicks if needed.
