How To Make Classic Samosa
Crispy pastry shells filled with spiced potatoes and peas.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 4 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 large potatoes, peeled and finely chopped
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1/2 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add in 4 tbsp of vegetable oil and mix well. Gradually add water, kneading until the dough is smooth and pliable. Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.
-
In a pan, fry onions, garlic, and ginger in 2 tbsp of vegetable oil until the onions become translucent.
-
Add in the potatoes, peas, garam masala, ground coriander, ground cumin, salt, and pepper. Fry until the potatoes are cooked through.
-
Preheat oil in a frying pan.
-
Divide the dough into 8 evenly shaped balls. Roll each ball out to form a circle. Cut each circle in half to form two semi-circles.
-
Take one of the semi-circles and form a cone. Fill the cone with the potato mixture and seal the edges.
-
Fry the samosas in the heated oil until they are golden brown and fully cooked.
-
Serve hot with cilantro chutney or tamarind sauce.
