How To Make Ground Sausage and Polenta Casserole Recipe

A savory, hearty casserole with layers of creamy polenta, ground sausage, and melted cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground sausage
  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.

  2. Brown the ground sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring frequently. Drain any excess fat and set aside.

  3. In a medium saucepan, bring the water to a boil. Gradually whisk in the cornmeal and reduce the heat to low. Cook, stirring frequently, for 10-15 minutes or until the polenta is thick and creamy.

  4. Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

  5. Spread a layer of the polenta in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Top with half of the ground sausage and half of the shredded cheese. Repeat the layers, finishing with a layer of cheese.

  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the casserole is hot and bubbly and the cheese is melted and golden brown.
