How To Make Sausage Ragu

Ingredients
- 1 lb Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
- Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)
Instructions

In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat, breaking it up into crumbles, until browned and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

In the same skillet, add the diced onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant.

Add the crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes (with their juice), dried basil, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Stir to combine.

Return the cooked sausage to the skillet and stir well. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Serve the sausage ragu over your favorite pasta, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves (if desired).
