How To Make Pork Carnitas
Pork is one of the most commonly cooked meats in the world and we’ve decided to put our spin into these minimal yet tasty pork recipes that will have you looking forward to every bite.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 pounds pork shoulder, cut into chunks
- 1 onion, sliced
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon cumin
- 1 tablespoon oregano
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 orange, juiced
- 1/4 cup lime juice
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
- Tortillas, for serving
- Optional toppings: diced onion, chopped cilantro, lime wedges
Instructions
-
In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat some oil over medium-high heat. Add the pork chunks and brown them on all sides.
-
Once the pork is browned, add the sliced onion and minced garlic to the pot. Cook until the onion is translucent.
-
In a small bowl, combine the cumin, oregano, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Sprinkle this spice mixture over the pork and onions, stirring to coat everything evenly.
-
Pour in the orange juice, lime juice, and chicken broth. Stir to combine.
-
Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and simmer for 3 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
-
Remove the pork from the pot and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the pot and cook for an additional 10 minutes to absorb the flavors of the cooking liquid.
-
Serve the pork carnitas on warm tortillas, topped with diced onion, chopped cilantro, and a squeeze of lime juice.
