Serves:
Ingredients
- 4 green tomatoes, sliced into 1/4 inch thick rounds
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- cooking oil, for frying
Instructions
-
In a shallow bowl, soak the tomato slices in buttermilk for 10 minutes.
-
In a separate bowl, mix together flour, cornmeal, salt, and black pepper.
-
In a large skillet, heat enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan over medium heat.
-
Take the tomato slices out of the buttermilk, letting excess drip off, and coat them evenly with the flour mixture.
-
Place the coated tomato slices into the skillet and fry in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
-
Remove the fried tomatoes from the skillet and place on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil.
-
Serve hot as an appetizer or as a side dish.
