How To Make Rich and Simple French Onion Soup
Comfort in a bowl – caramelized onions and beef broth come together for a flavorful and easy French onion soup.

Ingredients
- 4 large onions, thinly sliced
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp thyme leaves
- 1/2 cup dry white wine
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 4 slices of baguette
- 2 cups shredded Gruyere cheese
Instructions

Melt butter and oil in a large pot over medium-low heat. Add onions and garlic, and cook for 35-40 minutes until caramelized.

Add thyme and wine, and cook until liquid has evaporated.

Pour in beef broth, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes.

Preheat broiler. Ladle soup into 4 oven-safe bowls. Top each bowl with a slice of bread and 1/2 cup of cheese.

Place bowls on a baking sheet and broil for 2-3 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
