How To Make Fish and Bacon Chowder Recipe
A hearty creamy chowder with tender chunks of fish and crispy bacon in every bite.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 4 slices of bacon, diced
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups water
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 lb Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and diced into 1/2-inch cubes
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 lb firm white fish (such as cod or halibut), cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
-
In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the diced bacon over medium heat until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside.
-
Add the butter to the pot and melt. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute.
-
Add the water, milk, diced potatoes, thyme, bay leaf, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 20-25 minutes.
-
Add the fish to the pot and cook for another 5-7 minutes, until the fish is opaque and cooked through.
-
Stir in the heavy cream and chopped parsley. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
-
Serve hot with the reserved bacon sprinkled on top.
