How To Make Indian-Style Basmati Rice Recipe

Ingredients
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 4 cups water
- 1 tbsp ghee (clarified butter) or oil
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 cardamom pods
- 4 cloves
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 1 green chili, slit
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp chopped cilantro (coriander leaves), for garnish
Instructions

Rinse the basmati rice until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.

In a large pot, heat ghee or oil over medium heat. Add the cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, cloves, and bay leaf. Sauté for a minute until fragrant.

Add the chopped onion and cook until golden brown.

Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chili. Sauté for another minute.

Add the cumin seeds, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt. Stir well to combine.

Add the soaked and drained basmati rice to the pot. Sauté for 2-3 minutes to coat the rice with the spices.

Pour in 4 cups of water and bring to a boil.

Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a lid, and let the rice cook for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is tender and cooked.

Once cooked, fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with chopped cilantro.
