How To Make Carrot Rice

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of basmati rice
  • 2 large carrots, grated
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Fresh cilantro leaves, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain and set aside.

  2. Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

  3. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and green chili. Saute until the onions turn golden brown.

  4. Add the grated carrot and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. Add the soaked and drained basmati rice to the pan. Stir well to combine with the carrots and onions.

  6. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix everything together.

  7. Pour 3 cups of water into the pan and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan with a lid, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes until the rice is cooked through and all the water is absorbed.

  8. Remove from heat and fluff the rice gently with a fork.

  9. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and serve hot.
