How To Make Sausage and Pepper Penne Recipe

Ingredients
- 8 ounces penne pasta
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
- Fresh basil leaves, for garnish
Instructions

Cook the penne pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook until browned, breaking it up into smaller pieces with a spoon.

Add the bell peppers, onion, and garlic to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are softened and slightly caramelized.

Stir in the dried oregano, dried basil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for an additional minute.

Add the diced tomatoes and chicken broth to the skillet. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for about 10 minutes.

Add the cooked penne pasta to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.

Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Serve the sausage and pepper penne hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves.
