Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup beer
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Assorted vegetables or protein of choice (e.g. onion rings, shrimp, chicken)
Instructions
-
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using).
-
Gradually whisk in the beer until a smooth batter forms. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes.
-
In a deep pot or fryer, heat enough vegetable oil to fully submerge the vegetables or protein. Heat to 375°F (190°C).
-
Dip the vegetables or protein into the beer batter, ensuring they are fully coated.
-
Carefully place the coated vegetables or protein into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry in batches if necessary.
-
Fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon or tongs to remove the fried items from the oil and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
-
Repeat the dipping and frying process with the remaining vegetables or protein.
-
Serve the beer-battered vegetables or protein hot and crispy, with your favorite dipping sauce.
