How To Make Spicy Indian Rice

A flavorful and spicy rice dish that is packed with Indian spices and aromatic flavors.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 green chili, slit lengthwise
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 cup peas
  • 1/4 cup carrot, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp oil or ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves, for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Wash the basmati rice thoroughly and soak in water for 30 minutes.

  2. In a pan, heat oil or ghee and add cumin seeds. Let them crackle.

  3. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.

  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and green chili. Cook for a minute.

  5. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.

  6. Add all the spices – turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well.

  7. Add peas, carrots, and bell pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes.

  8. Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pan. Mix well with the spices and vegetables.

  9. Add 4 cups of water and bring it to a boil.

  10. Once the water starts boiling, cover the pan with a lid, reduce the heat, and let it cook for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.

  11. Fluff the rice gently with a fork and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
