How To Make Red Wine Sauce
A rich and flavorful sauce made with red wine, perfect for enhancing the taste of meat dishes.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 cup red wine
- 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 shallot, minced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh herbs (such as thyme or rosemary), optional for garnish
Instructions
-
In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced shallot and garlic, and sauté until they become translucent.
-
Sprinkle the flour over the shallot and garlic mixture, and stir well to combine. Cook for a minute or two, until the flour is slightly toasted.
-
Slowly pour in the red wine, stirring constantly. Allow the mixture to come to a simmer.
-
Once the wine has reduced by about half, add the broth and season with salt and pepper. Continue to simmer for another 10-15 minutes, until the sauce has thickened.
-
Remove the sauce from heat and strain it through a fine mesh strainer to remove any solids.
-
Serve the red wine sauce over your favorite cooked meat, such as steak or roasted chicken. Garnish with fresh herbs, if desired.
