How To Make Mince Pies
These delicious mince pies are a classic Christmas treat, filled with a rich and fruity mincemeat mixture, and topped with a flaky pastry crust.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 2 tbsp of granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp of salt
- 3-4 tbsp of ice water
- 1 cup of mincemeat
- 1 egg, beaten
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold butter and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
-
Gradually add the ice water, a tablespoon at a time, and mix until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
-
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface and cut out circles using a round cookie cutter.
-
Place the circles into a greased muffin tin. Spoon a tablespoon of mincemeat into each pastry case.
-
Use a smaller cookie cutter to cut out shapes from the remaining dough and place them on top of the mincemeat filling. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
-
Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
-
Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
