How To Make Easy Fluffy Scones
These scones are light and airy, perfect for a delightful breakfast or afternoon tea treat.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: 1/2 cup dried fruits, such as raisins or cranberries
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
-
Add the cold cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
-
In a separate bowl, mix the milk and vanilla extract together. Pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. If desired, fold in dried fruits.
-
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Be careful not to overwork the dough.
-
Pat the dough into a circle about 1-inch thick. Use a round cookie cutter or a drinking glass to cut out scones. Place them onto the prepared baking sheet.
-
Optional: Brush the tops of the scones with milk for a shiny finish.
-
Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown and cooked through.
-
Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before serving.
