How To Make Christmas Pie
A festive pie filled with warm and comforting flavors, perfect for celebrating Christmas.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/3 cup of ice water
- 2 cups of mixed berries (such as cranberries, blueberries, and raspberries)
- 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup of cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 1 beaten egg, for egg wash
- 1 tablespoon of coarse sugar, for topping

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, butter, sugar, and salt. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend the ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Gradually add the ice water, a tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overmix.

Divide the dough in half. Roll out one half of the dough on a lightly floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie dish. Transfer the dough to the pie dish and press it gently into the bottom and sides.

In another bowl, combine the berries, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the berries are coated.

Pour the berry mixture into the prepared pie crust.

Roll out the remaining dough and cut it into strips to make a lattice crust. Alternatively, you can cover the pie with a full crust and cut a few slits for ventilation.

Brush the lattice crust or full crust with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar.

Bake the pie for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.
