Serves:
Ingredients
- 8-10 sardines, cleaned and gutted
- 1 cup vinegar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 tsp peppercorns
- 1 tsp whole allspice
- 3 bay leaves
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup olive oil
Instructions

In a medium saucepan, mix together the vinegar, water, onion, peppercorns, allspice, bay leaves, salt, sugar, and garlic.

Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes.

Add the sardines to the pot and cook for 10-12 minutes depending on the size of the fish.

Once the fish is cooked, arrange them in a single layer in a shallow dish or bowl.

Pour the remaining sauce over the sardines and drizzle with olive oil.

Cover and chill in the refrigerator for a few hours or overnight before serving.
