Serves:
Ingredients
- 500g beef steak, cut into cubes
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, peeled and diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tbsp plain flour
- 300ml beef stock
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 sheet of ready-made puff pastry
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
-
In a large pan, heat some oil over medium heat and brown the steak cubes until they are golden. Remove from the pan and set aside.
-
In the same pan, sauté the onion, carrots, and garlic until they start to soften.
-
Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and stir well to coat.
-
Gradually pour in the beef stock and Worcestershire sauce, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens.
-
Add the browned steak back into the pan and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for about 1.5 hours, or until the steak is tender.
-
Transfer the steak and gravy mixture to a pie dish.
-
Roll out the puff pastry sheet slightly larger than the dish and place it over the steak mixture, pressing the edges to seal.
-
Brush the pastry with the beaten egg to give it a golden finish.
-
Make a few small cuts on the pastry to allow steam to escape during baking.
-
Bake the pie in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden.
-
Serve the steak pie hot with some mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables.
