Serves:
Ingredients
- 4 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
- 1/4 cup ice-cold water
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch pie dish.
-
In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, grated ginger, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
-
In a separate bowl, mix the flour and chopped walnuts. Add the diced butter and use your fingers to rub it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
-
Gradually add the ice-cold water to the flour mixture, mixing with a fork until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 15 minutes.
-
Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to fit the pie dish. Trim the edges and crimp them using your fingers or a fork.
-
Fill the pie crust with the apple mixture, spreading it evenly.
-
Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. Allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving.
-
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
