Photos of Candied Orange Slices Recipe
I was wondering what to do with some of my leftover oranges so I came up with these sweet, fruity delights. These candied orange slices or an orange fruit candy, as I like to call it, are a hit at home. It took me about less than an hour to make these chewy, sugar-coated fruit slices and it was worth it!
First step: Have oranges. I used navel oranges since they had that perfect balance of sweet and tart. But, feel free to use any types of oranges for this quick and easy recipe. Next, get those perfect orange slices and then carefully add them to the boiling water-sugar mixture. Make sure that you get that thin, syrup-y consistency before removing the orange slices from the mixture. The slices should also be slightly translucent when this happens. This is the secret to making these candied oranges extra yummy and wonderful.
An alternative method you can do is to use dried orange slices, but that would require more preparation. That’s why I decided to just cook it with the orange juices instead of using dried fruit. It was delicious! The sweet tart of the orange juice added flavor to the whole dessert. Since I simmered the juices with the water-sugar mixture, it gave that desired fruity sweetness.
Not only are these orange candy fruit slices addicting to eat, they also last long. My candied orange slices lasted for up to 4 months. It tasted even better since the orange slices absorbed more of the sugary syrup. Just make sure they’re kept in an airtight container.
Enjoy these candied orange slices as is or be more creative with it. I recommend you try dipping it in chocolate! You can also use these candied oranges as decorative toppings for cakes and other sweet pastries.
