How To Make Christmas Buns

Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp instant yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves
  • 1/3 cup warm milk
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup raisins
  • For the glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.

  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, and egg.

  3. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.

  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.

  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  6. Punch down the dough and knead in the raisins.

  7. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a ball.

  8. Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  9. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  10. Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

  11. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze.

  12. Drizzle the glaze over the warm buns and serve.
