Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 4 egg whites
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add in the softened butter and mix until the mixture resembles fine crumbs.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, almond extract, egg whites, and vegetable oil. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
-
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula and sprinkle sliced almonds over the batter.
-
Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
-
Once the cakes are completely cooled, frost with your favorite frosting and decorate as desired. Enjoy!
