Preparation: 30 minutes
Cooking: 45 minutes
Total: 75 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Food coloring (assorted colors)
  • Whipped cream or buttercream frosting
  • Assorted sprinkles and edible glitter
  • Unicorn horn and ears decorations (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.

  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk.

  5. Divide the batter equally into separate bowls. Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl and mix well to create vibrant colors.

  6. Spoon the colored batter into the prepared cake pans, alternating colors to create a marbled effect.

  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  8. Once the cakes have cooled, frost them with your choice of whipped cream or buttercream frosting. Decorate with sprinkles, edible glitter, and unicorn horn and ears decorations if desired.

  9. Slice and serve, and let the magic unfold!
