How To Make Karaage (Japanese Fried Chicken)
Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup sake
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ginger, grated
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Sesame seeds and green onions, for garnish
Instructions
-
In a bowl, combine soy sauce, sake, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sugar. Mix well.
-
Add the chicken pieces to the marinade and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight in the refrigerator.
-
In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and cornstarch.
-
Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or skillet to about 350°F (175°C).
-
Dredge the marinated chicken pieces in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
-
Carefully place the chicken pieces in the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
-
Transfer the fried chicken to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
-
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish.
-
Serve hot and enjoy!
