Ingredients
- 1 pre-made pie crust
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups whole milk
- 4 egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 egg whites
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
Instructions

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Bake pie crust according to package instructions and let cool.

In a saucepan, whisk together sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt.

Slowly pour in milk, whisking constantly.

Add in egg yolks and stir until well combined.

Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils.

Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract.

Pour chocolate mixture into cooled pie crust.

In a mixing bowl, beat egg whites with cream of tartar until foamy.

Gradually add in sugar, beating until stiff peaks form.

Spoon meringue over chocolate filling, making sure to spread it all the way to the crust.

Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until meringue is golden brown.
