How To Make Easy Chicken Tagine Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 chicken thighs, bone-in and skin-on
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 can (400g) diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1/4 cup green olives
  • Fresh cilantro leaves, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a tagine or large skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken thighs, skin-side down, and cook until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Flip and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove the chicken from the tagine and set aside.

  2. In the same tagine, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is softened, about 5 minutes.

  3. Add the cumin, coriander, paprika, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, and black pepper to the tagine. Stir well to coat the onions and garlic in the spices.

  4. Return the chicken thighs to the tagine, arranging them on top of the onion mixture. Pour in the diced tomatoes and honey. Stir gently to combine.

  5. Place the lemon slices and green olives on top of the chicken.

  6. Cover the tagine with a lid and cook over low heat for 40 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and tender.

  7. Remove the lid and garnish with fresh cilantro leaves before serving.
