Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
- 1 ½ cups malted barley flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 ¾ cups buttermilk
- 2 tbsp honey
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a round cake pan.

In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, malted barley flour, baking soda, and salt.
-
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk and honey. Stir until just combined.
-
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 1-2 minutes, until it comes together and is no longer sticky.
-
Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it in the prepared cake pan. Score a deep cross on the top of the loaf.
-
Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
-
Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
