Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for sprinkling on top)
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, 1/4 cup of sugar, baking powder, and salt.
-
Add the cold butter to the dry ingredients. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
-
In a separate bowl, mix together the milk and vanilla extract. Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture and stir until just combined.
-
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough gently a few times to bring it together, then pat it into a 1-inch thick round.
-
Use a round biscuit cutter to cut out scones from the dough. Place the scones onto the prepared baking sheet.
-
Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of sugar evenly over the tops of the scones.
-
Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are lightly golden brown on top.
-
Remove from the oven and let the scones cool for a few minutes before serving.
