How To Make Sourdough Donuts
Delicious and fluffy donuts made with sourdough starter, perfect for breakfast or dessert.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup sourdough starter
- 1 cup flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 4 cups vegetable oil, for frying
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
-
In a bowl, mix together the sourdough starter, flour, sugar, milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until a smooth dough forms.
-
Cover the bowl with a towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until the dough doubles in size.
-
Once the dough has risen, add the baking soda and salt to the dough and mix well.
-
Heat the vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
-
Using a tablespoon, drop small balls of dough into the hot oil and fry for 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
-
Remove the donuts from the oil and place them onto a paper towel-lined plate to cool.
-
Once cooled, dust the donuts with powdered sugar and serve.
