How To Make Hot Cross Cinnamon Buns

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 oz cream cheese
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Mix well.

  2. In a separate bowl, combine the warm milk and melted butter. Add to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.

  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish.

  6. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle.

  7. In a small bowl, mix together the sugar, cinnamon, and raisins. Sprinkle evenly over the dough.

  8. Roll the dough tightly from one edge to the other, sealing the seam at the end.

  9. Cut the rolled dough into 1-inch thick slices and place them in the prepared baking dish.

  10. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

  11. While the buns are baking, prepare the cream cheese frosting by mixing the powdered sugar, cream cheese, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  12. Once the buns are cooled slightly, drizzle the cream cheese frosting over the top in a cross pattern.

  13. Serve warm and enjoy!
