Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp cracked black pepper
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/4 cup dried figs, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup honey
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large bowl, combine the flour, cracked black pepper, baking powder, and salt.

Add the cold butter and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in the chopped figs.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the honey, buttermilk, and beaten egg.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

Transfer the dough to a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet and shape it into a round loaf.

Use a sharp knife to score an “X” on the top of the loaf.

Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
