Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- Coarse sea salt, for topping
- ½ cup baking soda
- 2 cups hot water
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Mix well.
-
Add the warm water and melted butter to the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.
-
Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
-
Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
-
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope, about 18 inches long.
-
Shape each rope into a pretzel shape and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
-
In a large pot, bring 2 cups of hot water and baking soda to a boil. Drop each pretzel into the boiling water for 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon and place them back on the baking sheet.
-
Sprinkle the pretzels with coarse sea salt.
-
Bake the pretzels for 12-15 minutes, until golden brown.
-
Remove from the oven and brush the pretzels with melted butter.
-
Serve warm and enjoy!
